If your attic already has a few inches of old insulation that is still dry and clean, the quickest upgrade is to blow new fiberglass over the top. Climate Pro flows around ducts, wiring, can lights and truss webs where batts leave gaps, and a machine can cover a whole attic in a few hours. How Many Bags?
At R-30, one bag covers about 77 sq ft, so a 1,500 sq ft attic needs about 20 bags. Higher R-values need more bags; always follow the coverage chart printed on the bag, which lists minimum thickness and bags per 1,000 sq ft for each R-value.
Tips for a Good Blown-In Job
- Air-seal the attic floor first; blown insulation doesn’t stop air leaks.
- Install baffles at the eaves and dams around the attic hatch.
- Put depth markers on the trusses so the depth comes out even.
- Remove contaminated or wet insulation before blowing new material over it.

- Check the chart on the bag: it lists bags per 1,000 sq ft for each R-value. R-38 takes noticeably more bags than R-30.
- Can I blow fiberglass over old insulation?
- Yes, if the old insulation is dry and free of mold and rodent contamination. Otherwise it should be removed first.
