Which Radiant Barrier?

Single-sided: lowest cost; the foil must face the attic air space.
Double-sided: reflective on both faces, more forgiving to install.
Scrim-reinforced: tear-resistant for large or complex attics.

Where Radiant Barriers Work Best

Radiant barriers are most effective in hot, sunny climates with ducts in the attic: exactly the conditions in the San Fernando Valley, Inland Empire, Santa Clarita and Las Vegas. Staple them under the rafters with an air gap, and keep vents clear.

How Much Do I Need?

Measure roof area, not floor area. Each roll covers 1,000 sq ft; add about 10% for overlaps.
