Knauf EcoBatt R-19: The 2×6 Wall Batt for Remodels and Additions
Opening walls for a remodel, ADU or room addition is the one chance to insulate them properly. Knauf EcoBatt R-19 is about 6¼ inches thick, the full depth of a 2×6 stud cavity, so it fills the wall without being compressed. The ECOSE binder keeps odor and dust down, which matters when you are working inside an occupied home.

Why Not R-13 or R-15 in a 2×6 Wall?
R-13 and R-15 batts are made for 2×4 walls. In a 2×6 cavity they leave an air gap that lets heat move freely. R-19 is matched to the 2×6 depth.

- 2×6 walls. At about 6¼ inches thick, R-19 matches the 5½-inch-deep 2×6 cavity once lightly fitted; 2×4 walls use R-13 or R-15.
- Which side does the kraft facing go on in a wall?
- Toward the interior, the heated side, stapled to the face or sides of the studs.
